Some people think a ski shop is just a place to rent gear. They're wrong.
For over 40 years, Boyne Country Sports hasn't just been selling equipment—we've been the first chapter of every adventure written on Boyne slopes, the trusted companion whispering "you've got this" before your first run, and the celebration point after you nail that trick you've been chasing all season.
We are, quite simply, where the story begins.

More Than a Store:
A Legacy Born in the Snow
Flash back to 1948, northern Michigan. Everett Kircher—part dreamer, part daredevil, full visionary—purchases a steep hill for one dollar. One. Dollar. He brings in the world's first chairlift from Sun Valley, piece by piece, and builds what would become Boyne Mountain. It wasn't just audacious. It was revolutionary.
That same pioneering spirit that built Boyne Mountain runs through the DNA of Boyne Country Sports. We started as a small independent shop right there on the mountain in the 1950s, officially founding in 1979, because Everett understood something fundamental: great adventures require great gear, and great gear requires people who truly understand the mountain.
We're not a retailer that happens to be at ski resorts. We're part of the resort itself—born from the same vision, serving the same dream.
From the Heart of Michigan to North America's Peaks
Today, that single dollar investment has grown into North America's largest family-owned, independent mountain resort company. Twelve distinct destinations spanning from British Columbia to Maine, from Montana's big sky country to Utah's legendary powder. And at the heart of it all, connecting guests to the gear and knowledge they need? That's us.
Boyne Mountain is where the magic started, and it's where we feel most at home. With 415 skiable acres, the Midwest's first 8-place chairlift (the Disciples 8), SkyBridge Michigan—the world's longest timber-towered suspension bridge—and Avalanche Bay Indoor Waterpark, it's become a year-round adventure destination. Step into our Village location, and you'll find more than inventory. You'll find our crew—passionate, knowledgeable locals who've traced every line on that mountain and can match you with the perfect setup for your style.
Then there's The Highlands at Harbor Springs, a place of refined beauty and various terrain. Whether you're carving groomers or exploring glades, our shop at the Day Lodge is stocked with everything from the latest demo fleet to that perfect layer you didn't know you needed. We're not just here to sell you gear—we're here to dial in your experience.

The Real Story:
It's Always Been About Connection
Here's what makes Boyne Country Sports different from any other ski shop you've walked into: we're not transactional. We're relational.
When you step into one of our seven Michigan locations—from Boyne Mountain to The Highlands, from Bloomfield Hills to Traverse City—you're not meeting salespeople. You're meeting people who live this lifestyle. People who spent their morning on the same slopes you're about to hit. People who understand that the difference between a good day and an unforgettable day often comes down to whether your boots fit right or your wax is dialed in.
We offer demo programs because sometimes you need to feel it before you commit. Our tuning masters will have your edges sharp enough to carve ice and your base fast enough to fly. And when you're not sure what you need, our crew won't just sell you on the top-shelf option; they'll ask the right questions and find what actually works for you.

Beyond the Mountain:
A Year-Round Commitment
The transformation we undergo each spring tells its own story. As snow melts and golf courses green up, our shops evolve. Petoskey becomes a specialty golf shop. Traverse City and Grand Rapids blend water sports with outdoor lifestyle. We shift from ski tuning to club fitting, from snowboard demos to e-bike rentals.
Because adventure doesn't end when the lifts close for the season.
Summer brings mountain biking, hiking, paddling, golf, and exploring. Our inventory transforms to match—technical trail apparel, golf equipment, standup board essentials, and casual wear from brands like Patagonia, Helly Hansen, Free Fly, and Kari Traa. We carry what we believe in, brands that match our commitment to quality, performance, and respect for the outdoors.

The BoyneRewards Connection:
We're All in This Together
When you shop with us, you're not just buying gear—you're investing in your next adventure. Through BoyneRewards, every dollar you spend with us earns points redeemable across eleven Boyne locations. Buy your skis with us, earn points toward your next lift ticket, your next round of golf, your next meal at the lodge. It's the Boyne family taking care of its own.
Your Story Starts Here
So yes, we're a specialty outdoor retailer. We have seven locations in Michigan and a robust online presence. We carry industry-leading brands and thousands of products.
But really? We're storytellers. We're enablers of adventure. We're the people who get genuinely hyped when you find the perfect setup, who remember your name when you come back next season, who want to hear about the run that changed your life or the round that finally broke 80.
From that first chairlift in 1948 to today's cutting-edge 8-place lifts, from a single hill in Michigan to twelve destinations across North America—Boyne's story has always been about pioneering spirit, family values, and creating unforgettable experiences.
And at Boyne Country Sports, we're honored to be part of writing your chapter in that story.
